A Standardbred racehorse owner has filed a lawsuit against a major North American track after his horse had to be euthanized after suffering a serious injury while on the racing surface.
News of a potential lawsuit had been reported early in 2014, and now, according to a follow-up article by observer-reporter.com, the horse owner in question, Michael Puff, filed suit this week.
The article states that Puff is suing The Meadows Racetrack & Casino, Washington Trotting Association and CCR Pennsylvania Racing Inc.
On a snowy February 4, 2013 at The Meadows, located in Pennsylvania, Puff’s mare Little Bit Tricky slipped on what has been described as an icy track. She broke her leg and had to be euthanized.
Puff has taken the position that Little Bit Tricky was worth more than $100,000. He is also seeking all costs and damages that he has incurred.
The article states that Tom Meinert, a spokesman for The Meadows, has said that he is not permitted to comment on the situation. Additionally, Puff’s attorney, Kenneth Burkley, did not return calls for comment on the situation.
