New Jersey Breeding Bill Advances

It has been reported that on Tuesday, June 25 the New Jersey Senate passed Bill S-2759 by a vote of 40-0. The bill calls for horses that are from resident mares to be eligible to the New Jersey Sire Stakes program even though the horse's sire stands in another state.

The news come courtesy of a report by John Brennan in The Bergen Record.

“As more states such as New York and Pennsylvania become invested in the gaming and horse racing industry, New Jersey must evolve to stay competitive," Senator James Whelan was quoted as saying. "Expanding the eligibility of horses to be considered for these supplemental purses is the first step in reinvigorating the horse racing industry in New Jersey.”
