Horseman Carl Jamieson told Trot Insider this morning that 2008 Breeders Crown elimination winner
Captain Sir has been euthanized.
"I trained him Thursday (June 18) and left him in the paddock that night," Jamieson explained. "On Friday morning the horse couldn't walk."
Jamieson explained that the bay Art Major colt was foundering in all four feet. "He was sent to [the University of] Guelph and had to be put down Sunday (June 21) night."
Jamieson told Trot Insider that a post-mortem has been performed on Captain Sir, but he has yet to receive the report.
"The only thing that I can think of is that he must have gotten into something toxic," Jamieson told Trot Insider. "I just can't believe it --- I'm still in shock, to tell you the truth."
In a 12-race career, Captain Sir compiled a slate of 3-2-1, taking his mark of 1:52.3 over the Meadowlands Racetrack in his Crown elim. The colt had been entered to contest last Saturday evening's Pepsi North America Cup eliminations at Mohawk Racetrack.
Captain Sir was owned by Jamieson with Thomas Kyron of Toronto, Ont., G. Arthur Slack of Rockwood, Ont. and George Harrison of Preston, England.
