Baymount Granted Preliminary Approval

On Thursday, June 23, Baymount Incorporated announced that the Ontario Racing Commission has granted Baymount, along with its subsidiary, Belleville Racetrack Development Corporation, preliminary approval for

a license to operate a racetrack.

According to a release by Baymount, the most recent approval supersedes the preliminary approval it received from the ORC previously on June 26, 2006.

The releases states that the 'critical step' within the regulatory process allows the company to further the development of the new Quinte Exhibition and Raceway in Belleville, Ont.

The release concludes by stating that final approval from the ORC will not be issued until the facility is complete and BRDC and Baymount have satisfied the terms and conditions of the preliminary approval.

My concern in this matter is why OLG and the ORC have let this project drag on with no signs of a resolve...Cmon boys you are the regulating bodies and this is well past its best before date.

Isn't this a bit early for the annual Baymount/City of Belleville and Ag Society announcement that spades will soon be in the ground? Who could possibly believe that in the 6 years since the last preliminary approval there has been nothing done except for the sign with something derogatory written across it being placed on the property. Perhaps the horsemen in the area just don't give a s&&t about this and maybe the city doesn't need all the jobs the racino will create. Hand the whole project over to the local Mohawks, they will get'er done and at less cost.

Baymount has suffered many disappointments over the years, not only in Belleville, but also in Manitoba and Quebec. I believe that their Belleville project will get off the ground if only because they are patient and persistent.
