In speaking with Trot Insider, Woodbine Entertainment Group senior vice president Jamie Martin has shed some light on what led to the fire, power outage and
subsequent cancellation of the Monday, June 22 card of racing at Mohawk Racetrack.
Martin explained that the card had to be halted after an explosion occurred in the midst of the program.
"After the fifth race there was a very loud bang," Martin told Trot Insider. "There was an explosion in the main substation of the building."

Martin said that there was smoke in side the grandstand and that the grandstand and slot area had to be evacuated, as everyone had to leave the facility.
He also explained how the Milton Fire Department and representatives of the track's energy supplier were at the racetrack most of the night. Power was restored at roughly 5:30 this morning and the picturesque Campbellville facility was able to begin pumping water to the backstretch.
On Saturday, June 27, Mohawk will be the site of Canada's most prestigious standardbred horse race -- the $1.5 million Pepsi North America Cup for three-year-old pacers. The post position draw took place at the facility today and featured Toronto Maple Leafs president and general manager Brian Burke as honourary drawmaster.
