The New Jersey State Racing Commission decided on Wednesday, June 20 that operators building state-of-the-art off-track wagering locations in the state should get additional time to get the facilities completed, thus averting a clause which would've seen the operators be forced to pay $1 million to retain the rights.
A report by njbiz.com states that under the ruling, the commission will now be provided with monthly progress reports on the completion of the facilities, which have been in the works for years.
The companies that hold the licenses have pointed to multiple challenges in the state industry which have led to the delays, while horsemen's groups have accused the license holders as 'dragging their feet.'
