Trainer Tony Alagna won the day with five training wins on The Meadowlands' Saturday morning Breakfast With The Babies on June 18.
Alagna's first win came with Royal Filly (Dexter Dunn), who emerged from a pocket trip in the stretch to get the victory in 2:00. The Chapter Seven filly is trained in Alagna's barn for Crawford Farms.
Alagna trainee Mambacita (David Miller) went right down the road in 1:58.2 to win by open lengths. Mambacita, a filly from the first crop of Tactical Landing, was an $80,000 Lexington Selected purchase by trainer Alagna as Alagna Racing, breeder Crawford Farms and Pryde Stables Inc.
Alagna sent out Captaintreacherous colt El Rey (Dunn), who rallied wide off cover to track down Undeniablebluechip (Brian Sears) in the final strides of a 1:56.2 victory. Brittany Farms, Steve Head and Larry Denley share ownership of El Rey with breeder Riverview Breeding.
The first foal of top race mare Penpal, Treacherous Penny (Todd McCarthy), was also a winner for Alagna in 1:56.1. Bred by Pat Lachance and M&M Harness Racing, Treacherous Penny was a $150,000 Lexington buy for Rob Leblanc, Big Al’s Stable, Caviart Farms and John Fodera.
Alagna's fifth victory came from Bellisima Hanover, another by Captaintreacherous, who went all the way in a 1:58.2 win for driver McCarthy.
Bellisima is from Alagna and Myron and Stephanie Bell’s Bedroomconfessions, who won over $1-million in her racing career, and went through the ring for $400,000 at Lexington. The trainer owns the filly in partnership with the Bells' Riverview Breeding, Caviart Farms, Daniel Plouffe and Steve Head.
Yannick Gingras also had a productive outing by driving four winners on the card's 17 races for two-year-olds that were held in windy conditions.
Gingras first found the winner's circle with Brunella, who posted a 1:58.4 win, her second in as many starts. Brunella is trained by Nancy Takter for Christina Takter and Goran Falk, who bred and own the daughter of Father Patrick.
Captaintreacherous colt Save America and Gingras set all the fractions and moved away from his rivals late to score a 1:56.2 victory. The winner is a Nancy Takter trainee, this time for the partnership of 3 Brothers Stable and Caviart Farms. Breeder Fred Hertrich sold the precocious colt at the Standardbred Horse Sales last fall.
Gingras rallied late with Winner’s Bet to roll to be victorious in 1:58. The son of Walner was a $200,000 Lexington purchase last fall by Lindy Farms of Connecticut and Robert Rudolph from breeder SRF Stable.
Diamondsnpearls, with Gingras in the bike, won the for second time at BWTB. The Captaintreacherous filly stopped the clock in 1:55. Diamondsnpearls is a Brittany Farms and Marvin Katz homebred.
Racing on Saturday evening (June 18) at The Meadowlands starts at 6:20 p.m., and it’s Hamburger Day with several local specialists competing for cash and trophies.
