In addition to the five pacing colts trainer Tracy Brainard will be sending postward in the eliminations for the $1.5 million Pepsi North America Cup this Saturday night, June 20, she has assembled an impressive half-dozen feisty fillies
, all owned by Bulletproof Enterprises, to contest the elims for the $735,000 (est.) Fan Hanover stakes.
Leading the charge is Yellow Diamond, who has turned more than a few heads this spring, most recently with a sparkling 1:49.4 performance in the $250,000 final of the James M. Lynch Memorial at Pocono Downs. The daughter of Western Terror has been widely touted as a filly who could have taken on the boys in the Pepsi North America Cup, had she been eligible and there seems little doubt that she will be a dominant force in the
Fan Hanover. She’ll be leaving from the seven hole in the first of three Fan Hanover elims with regular pilot Jim Morrill Jr. in the bike.
Brainard will also send out Kabbalah Karen B, another Western Terror lass, from the far outside in this elim. While she’ll be hard-pressed to defeat her shiny stablemate from that position, the filly will have Tim Tetrick in the bike to guide her, which might prove to be her lucky charm.
Another Brainard pupil by the name of Not Enough had more than enough last week in the $293,000 final of the Lismore Pace at Yonkers raceway, winning by a solid three lengths in 1:53.4 and justifying the $30,000 price tag of supplementing her to this stake. The daughter of Grinfromeartoear is undefeated in five starts this year and has added over $250,000 to her coffers; she has drawn post position four in the final Fan Hanover elim. Morrill has been assigned the drive on her, as well.
Cheap Motel is the second Brainard filly to go postward in Race 10; like Not Enough, she’s sired by Grinfromeartoear and has been assigned 15-1 morning line odds with Mark MacDonald tapped to drive.
The only elimination in which Brainard’s entries have not been handed favourite status, is the second split, in which Jennas Beach Boy daughter, Shanghai Lil, has been given the 8-5 nod over Brainard’s Shacked Up – but not by much.
Shacked Up (9-2) was fourth to her stablemate Yellow Diamond in the Lynch final on June 6, but was a handy winner in the previous week’s Lynch elimination and has taken home cheques in each of her four starts this spring. Brian Sears takes over the drive on Shacked Up, while Mark MacDonald will steer another Brainard entry, Terroronthebeach (15-1).
It all adds up to some exciting racing on a not-to-be-missed night at Mohawk, which also features eliminations for the Goodtimes stakes and the Pepsi North America Cup.
