Bugsy Maguire, under the command of Norris Rogers, wired the field to win the Friday night (June 17) feature at Red Shores Summerside in a dazzling 1:54.4.
Rogers sent the former Governor’s Plate champion Bugsy Maguire to the front in the $3,000 pace and carved out fractions of :27.3, :55.4 and 1:25 flat before sprinting home in :29.4 to notch his 42nd lifetime victory. Wade Sorrie conditions the son of Bettors Delight for local owner Walter Simmons. Nogreatmischief (Walter Cheverie) was second while My Land (Damian MacLellan) was third. The 3-4-2 triactor paid $130.30.
Ken Murphy had four winners on the program. Murphy, who was named Horseman of the Year by the Prince County Horsemen’s Club, guided the Lester Stewart trainee Betterthanglamor to victory for owners Joanne and Marion Stewart of Albany, P.E.I. then came right back with Myambrose for owners Carl and Jason MacDougall of Ellerslie, P.E.I. in 2:00.4. The Yingyang, trained by Allan Gregory, and the Eric Doucette-trained Rymar Jimbo completed the grand slam.
Damian MacLellan scored a driving triple on the program while Adam Merner recorded a driving double.
