Mohawk Racetrack had its first glimpse of two-year-olds under the lights on Friday evening, and an eye-catching performance was turned in by the Carl Jamieson-trained Warrawee Needy

.

The son of E Dees Cam-Great Memories rallied from a tough spot for driver Jody Jamieson to win in a North American season’s record of 1:53.1.

Jamieson got away fifth with Warrawee Needy while Shore Light laid down first-half fractions of :28.3 and :57.3. Thunder Steeler took over command shortly past the mid-way point and proceeded to lead the field to the three-quarter pole in 1:26.2 before bearing out badly in the lane. Warrawee Needy, who sat fifth until the three-quarter pole gobbled up racetrack when it was fed to him by Jamieson, and the colt uncorked a :25.2 final frame en route to winning by 2-1/4 lengths over Thunder Steeler. Boysgotfever rounded out the top three finishers.

Warrawee Needy, the half brother to Big Bay Point (1:49 - $265,704), is owned by Carl Jamieson, Thomas Kyron, Floyd Marshall and Dr. Michael Wilson.
