The win streak is now four-in-a-row and counting for the crackerjack trotting mare Windsong Soprano, who became North America’s fastest older trotting mare of 2010 on a seven-eighths mile oval
thanks to a 1:53 score at Mohawk Racetrack on Tuesday evening.
The four-year-old daughter of Windsongs Legacy-Muscling In overcame some final turn traffic to rally to a 1:53 victory for driver Steve Condren and trainer Bob McIntosh. The clocking shaved two-fifths of a second off the 1:53.2 record previously set by Seaside at the Meadowlands.
Windsong Soprano settled in the four hole while Yursa Hanover and Mario Baillargeon sprinted to the quarter pole in :26.4. With Countess Stormont and Jonathan Drury pressing the tempo, Yursa Hanover carved out middle splits of :56.1 and 1:25.3. Windsong Soprano, in the meantime, was trapped on the rail as the field entered the lane.
Condren found clearance with his charge, and she used a :26.4 final frame to post the half-length win over Friendly Amigo, who sat a pocket trip throughout the mile for driver Trevor Ritchie. Yursa Hanover faded to finish third in the $22,000 event for fillies and mares.
Susan Grange’s Lothlorien of Cheltenham, ON owns the talented trotting lass, who is now a 17-time winner in her career. The lion’s share of the purse lifted her lifetime earnings to $1,048,245.
