The post position draw for the 2011 edition of the $1.5 million Pepsi North America Cup at Mohawk Racetrack took place this afternoon
at the Campbellville, Ont. oval.
'Cup' elimination winners Powerful Mist, Up The Credit and Big Bad John were given the opportunity to select their horses' post positions for the final prior to the open draw. To view the charted lines from the elims, click here. To view replays of the elims, click here.
Powerful Mist chose first and selected Post Position 3. Big Bad John was next and selected Post 4. Up The Credit selected Post 2.
Western Hanover colt Big Bad John has been just that so far in 2011. Unbeaten in four starts this season, the pupil of trainer Ron Potter will look to make it five in the Cup. The Brett Miller-driven bay will start from Post 4. Big Bad John, who was a $130,000 yearling purchase, is owned by Winchester Baye Acres Inc. He prepped for the Cup by tuning up in Pennsylvania before pacing to a 1:50.3 victory in his Cup elim. Big Bad John has been named the 2-1 morning line favourite.
The Carl Jamieson-trained and Jody Jamieson-driven Up The Credit has stepped out as one of the continent's top glamour boys. The brown Western Terror colt built upon his victory in The Diplomat Stakes earlier this spring with a 1:49 stakes-lowering triumph in the Somebeachsomewhere Stakes. The $72,000 yearling purchase then went on to post a 1:50.3 victory in his NA Cup elimination last weekend. Up The Credit, who has been assessed as the 5-2 second morning line choice, is co-owned by Carl Jamieson along with Thomas Kyron, Brian Paquet and Joanne Morrison.
The Wayne Givens-trained Powerful Mist will start from Post 3 and will be driven by David Miller. Owned by Legacy Racing of De Inc, Niel Gargiulo and Louie Paglierani, Powerful Mist was a dominant performer in Delaware earlier this year before hitting the stakes path. He finished on the board in both the Max Hempt Memorial Pace and the Somebeachsomewhere Stakes before his 1:50.2 victory in the Cup elims. Powerful Mist has been installed as the 6-1 fourth choice on the morning line.
In the open draw, Big Jim, drew Post 1 for trainer James 'Friday' Dean and driver Phil Hudon. The Breeders Crown winner captured the $400,000 New Jersey Classic earlier this spring at the Meadowlands Racetrack and finished third to Powerful Mist in his Cup elim. The James Carr-owned son of Western Ideal has been gauged as the 7-1 fifth morning line choice.

I just joined this website and find it very interesting. I've always been a fan of standardbred racing and hope it will continue in both large and small centers, actually I enjoy going to the smaller centers more because you are right next to the action.
