Central Huron Mania In Clinton

Sunday afternoon’s 13-race program at Clinton Raceway was dedicated to the second leg of the Central Huron Series, with trotters and pacers of both genders in town

to do battle.

Ranchester trotted to a career-best clocking of 2:01.1 in the first of three $8,000 divisions for the male trotters. The three-year-old son of Duke Of York rallied to win by 2-1/2 lengths for the father/daughter duo of driver Paul Walker and Julie Walker.

Paul and Julie share ownership on the gelding with Malcolm and Robert MacPhail of Dover Centre, ON. The youngster is now 3-for-6 this season after going winless in three starts as a rookie.

Tequilaamigo (2:03.1) and Indigo Hall (2:04) picked up wins in the other divisions for the male trotters.

J Cs Vision (2:02.3) came up a neck short in the first of three divisions for female trotters, but she was awarded the victory when Carscot Review, who was the first to cross the line in 2:02.3, was placed second for a lapped-on break at the finish. The victory was a maiden-breaking win for J Cs Vision, a daughter of Mutineer who hangs her harness bag in the barn of trainer Kevin Campbell.

Randy McLean mapped out the winning trip for the three-year-old filly, who is owned by Andrew Carruthers of St. Catherines, ON.

Bank Of Ballykeel (2:03.3) and Imagination K (2:06) took the other divisions for the trotting gals.

Draconian Prophet (1:58.4) rebounded from a disappointing OSS defeat on June 6 to take the quickest of the four divisions of the Central Huron Series for female pacers. The three-year-old Goliath Bayama miss went gate-to-wire in a time of 1:58.4 for driver Mike Horner.

Owned and trained by Jamie Wilson of Huron Park, ON, the filly has managed to put together a 4-2-1 record in eight starts this season after going unraced as a rookie.

The other divisions for the female pacers went to Northern Athena (1:59.1), Northern Fling (1:59.3) and Wind Drifter (2:00.3).

In Motion Killean went coast-to-coast in a career-best clocking of 1:59.4 in one of three divisions for the male pacers. The three-year-old son of Camotion came through as the 7-5 favourite for the tandem of trainer Scott McNiven and driver Michael Whelan.

McNiven shares ownership on the two-time winner with Tom Brodhurst of London and Shirley Griffin of St. Thomas, ON.

Motown Howe (2:00.1) and Lawmen Reign (2:01) were the other winners in the divisions for the male pacers.

Clinton Raceway will host the finals – each worth in excess of $20,000 – next Sunday afternoon.
