It has been reported that Advance Deposit Wagering outlets in Kentucky saw a double-digit increase in handle in the first three months of the year compared to the same time period in 2013.
An article by The Courier-Journal states that even though wagering on horse races in the United States fell 2.08 per cent during the three-month period, Kentucky ADWs handled $31.95-million in wagers, a spike of 11.19 per cent over the same time frame a year prior.
The report states that the numbers indicate a transition from wagering within brick-and-mortar facilities to ADWs.
The article also states that effective August 1, the State of Kentucky will be imposing a 0.5 per cent tax on ADW wagers.
