The track record for three-year-old pacing colts changed hands, or in this case hooves, at Alberta Downs on Sunday following a 1:54.4 score by Gramrun Jake
.
The son of Camcracker-Roxette Hanover, who was a 1:54.3 winner on April 15 at Fraser Downs, qualified at Alberta Downs on June 5 in a mediocre clocking of 1:57.1 before cranking up his speed in Sunday’s assignment. The performance erased the former track standard for three-year-old pacing colts of 1:55.1 set by Revoler on August 20, 2010.
In rein to Dave Hudon, Gramrun Jake tucked into an early three-hole and stayed there until the mid-way point while Western Chrome rolled along on the lead through panels of :28.2 and :58. Hudon had his charge out and rolling in the third quarter with Western Chrome still on the lead to the third panel in 1:27. Gramrun Jake wrestled away the lead from that foe and drew off to a two-length lead at the head of the stretch. His :27.2 final frame was more than enough to win by a length over KG Art Dreamer. Wannabe Cowboy was third.
Owned and trained by Dan Ingram of Langley, BC, Gramrun Jake now boasts a 2-for-7 record this season. The four-time winner has potted in excess of $36,000 in his career.
