In a pair of articles, The Detroit News has shined its spotlight on the State of Michigan's horse racing industry.

The first article explains how Michigan racetracks are continuing to push for racino gaming at their facilities.

According to the first article, Michigan voters could have the option to approve expanded casino gambling around the state this coming November if a petition drive gets the necessary 386,000 signatures by the July 5 deadline.

Racing to Save Michigan, a group headed by Hazel Park Raceway CEO Dan Adkins, is looking to get the state constitution amended so that expanded gaming options can become a reality in five of the state racetracks (Hazel Park Raceway, Northville Downs, Swartz Creek's Sports Creek Raceway, Pinnacle Race Course, Mount Pleasant Meadows)

The second article discusses the current dynamic of the Michigan horse racing industry from a racing perspective.

Grooms and trainers offer their comments in the second article, which also analyzes purse structure, how Michigan horsepeople are getting by, and how increased competition from neighbouring racing jurisdictions and other forms of in-state gaming options are affecting the industry.
