According to reports, eight Thoroughbreds perished during the early morning hours of Friday (May 9) in a barn fire at a facility located near Keeneland in Lexington, Kentucky.

An article by WKYT states that the fire started at roughly 1 a.m. and that employees in the tower at a local airport were the first people to inform the blaze to the local fire department.

The report states that a trainer was able to get a couple of horses out of a smaller barn, but the larger barn was fully engulfed and was destroyed by the time the fire department arrived.

Please join Standardbred Canada in offering condolences to the connections of the horses that passed in the fire.
