New York-sired three-year-old trotting fillies prevailed at Saratoga Casino Hotel on Wednesday afternoon (May 8).
Trainer Bob Gale’s RCs Lady Royale, the 1-5 chalk by RC Royalty, was tops in her $7,500 trotting dash for driver Jay Randall, as she recorded a gate-to-wire victory from the rail in 1:59.3. RC Lady Royale earned over $15,000 last season as a juvenile and has come back strong to begin her ’19 campaign. Her 1:59.3 mile was a life’s-best effort.
In the other featured dash for NY-breds, the Dan Daley-trained Somermusicchapter, by Chapter Seven, added lasix and trotted the mile without hopples. Gerry Mattison drove the filly in what was her 2019 debut. The filly powered up first-over and cruised past the race’s favourite before drawing away for the win. The triumph was a maiden-breaking victory and was clocked in 2:00.2.
The first installment of the NYSS at Saratoga will take place on May 26. Three-year-old trotting fillies are scheduled to compete at the ‘Spa’ on Sunday June 9.
