With 2-5 favourite JMs Rockin making an uncharacteristic break, Mega Miki capitalized on the opportunity to win the $31,900 J. P. Morel Memorial Pacing Series Final at Saratoga Casino Hotel on Saturday (May 7).
The four-year-old Joel Flanders trainee survived a first-over push and came a back half in under :57 before drawing away from his rivals in the stretch to win. Lannister Hanover, a 43-1 shot, charged hard late to finish second while leg-one winner Pound For Pound closed to be third in a race that was a longshot bettor’s delight. The winner paid a middling $12.80 on top, but the exacta and triple returned a bulky $631 and $4,721, respectively. Mega Miki is owned by Joel and Karen Flanders of Argyle, NY.
Live racing continues on Sunday afternoon (May 8) at Saratoga with a first post time set for 12 p.m. (EDT). There will be a Pick-6 Jackpot of $7,619. The Pick 6 is a 20-cent wager.
