It has been reported that a total of four horses at the now-quarantined stable area at Vernon Downs in New York State have tested positive for Equine Herpes Virus-1 (EHV-1).
In a report by The Observer-Dispatch has quoted Vernon Downs Director of Racing Scott Warren as saying that the track is "at the mercy of the [New York State Department of Agriculture & Markets] and they’ll have the final say if we’re going to race this week or when we’re going to race anytime, really.”
The The Observer-Dispatch article has cited a joint statement from the New York State Gaming Commission and the New York State Department of Agriculture & Markets as saying that the halting of cards of live racing “will continue…as the Department of Agriculture and Markets, the State Gaming Commission and track management work to assess and contain the outbreak.”
The first horse that tested positive for the virus was humanely euthanized this past weekend.
The next card of live racing at Vernon is scheduled for Thursday, May 9.
