After 64 starts together, both trainer Salvatore Sonsogno and five-year-old trotter J N Ryder celebrated victory for the first time in their careers on Friday night (May 5) at The Raceway at Western Fair District.

Starting from the inside post in the $7,800 second race, J N Ryder and driver Scott Young looped early leaver P C Pipe Dream to take the lead during the :30.3 opening quarter and carved out middle splits of 1:02.3 and 1:32.4 en route to the victory in 2:02.4 over the "good" track. Liam Needsome advanced first-over to finish second ahead of P C Pipe Dream, finishing one and a half lengths behind the first-time winner. J N Ryder was the post time favourite in the field scratched down to five trotters and paid $4.20 to win.

J N Ryder had made just seven starts before owner Sonsogno started his training career in 2015 with the Angus Hall-JN Daytona gelding, who has earned $45,714 in purses lifetime.
