Hanover Raceway kicked off its 49th season of live harness racing Saturday night and driver Trevor Henry stole the show.
In his first night back at the Grey County track since securing top driver honours in 2012, Henry was purely dominant winning six of the nine races he drove in.
Henry kicked off the night’s action with a win in the very first race of the season, steering Treaty Notice to her first lifetime victory in 2:01.1.
After the race, Henry was presented with a host of awards recognizing his career year in 2012. He received trophies for being the leading dash-winning and percentage driver at Hanover Raceway in 2012, as well as a plaque commemorating his accomplishment of finishing 2012 ahead of all drivers in Canada with 533 wins.
The Arthur, Ont. native and 10-time top driver at Hanover rolled off wins in the next three races, and added back-to-back wins in races eight and nine to jump out to an early lead in the new season’s driving ranks. Among Henry’s six wins were two new lifetime marks for a couple of Andrew McCabe trainees. He was in the bike for the fastest mile of the night aboard Prime Time Poppa, who dominated a field of claiming pacers in 1:55.3 for McCabe. McCabe’s other starter, Bluebird Perfect, went from last at the half-mile station to sweep the field to win in 1:56.4.
Henry currently leads all Canadian reinsmen in driver’s rating and his big night in Hanover will certainly help to pad that lead.
Live racing resumes next Saturday night with Ladies’ Night. Hanover will have special prize draws for mothers in attendance courtesy of The Flower Shoppe, My Scissors and I, and Dolce Vita Spa, all of Hanover. Post-time Saturday, May 11 is 7:15 p.m.
