R Peaky Blinders came first-up into the final turn and finished gamely to tackle a field of tough trotters in the $30,000 upper-level conditioned feature at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Sunday, May 3.
Tyler Borth slotted him fifth heading into the first turn with Osceola (Doug McNair) firing out of post eight to make the front near an opening quarter of :27.4. R Peaky Blinders gapped the five-hole coming onto the backstretch, but Borth had him bridge the gap by the half in :57 and used his momentum to launch first-over nearing the homebound bend. The stallion was up to third by three-quarters in 1:25.3, and with Usain Hanover (James MacDonald) emerging off his helmet to close alongside him, R Peaky Blinders produced his top speed all the way down the stretch to pass Osceola late and prevail by three-quarters of a length in 1:53.3. Usain Hanover was second over Osceola.
R Peaky Blinders broke stride early in the Open Trot a week ago but bounced back on Sunday for his second victory of the year in 13 starts.
