Congratulations to Tania Girouard of Brownsburg-Chatham, Quebec, on winning the first Zoom Challenge of the year. The April theme was ‘Spring Fever’ with members asked to send us shots that showcased horses in spring and the many things that go along with it!
Tania’s winning shot is of 13-year-old retired mare Da Dimitria having a blast in the mud. “She has always loved mud parties and water! It was perfect timing for me and my camera on that hot spring day,” Tania explained.
Girouard, who is married to Quebec-based trainer and blacksmith Eric Valiquette, is also a passionate owner who enjoys riding her Standardbreds under saddle. She has been photographing animals for the past six years with horses being her specialty and favourite subject.
“The most beautiful breed of horse to my eyes and heart are Standardbreds!”
Tania and Eric currently have four Standardbreds at their farm along with a pony named Surprise for their kids and one of their mares is expecting a foal in the next few days.
Tania has won a $50 Fan Club prize package. Congrats! And thank you to our other finalists:

May Zoom Theme Is Mares & Foals!
May’s Zoom Challenge theme is Mares & Foals. What better way to celebrate the month of May and Mother’s Day then fawning over photos of mares with their new baby foals!
We’re looking for photos of mares and foals and the things they have been getting up to together. Either taking their first steps, frolicking in the pasture or enjoying the sunshine!
If you don’t own a horse, or live at a farm, you could take your camera to one of the three Mother’s Day Open Houses on Sunday, May 14. High Stakes Farm in Moffat, Mac Lilley Farms in Dutton, and Seelster Farms in Lucan, Ont., will be opening their farms to showcase their mares, foals, stallions and facilities.
So, get out there and start snappin’ mares with their foals! Please send your photo submissions to [email protected]. The deadline to submit photos is Thursday May 25 at 5:00 p.m. (EST).
The winner for this month will receive a great Fan Club Swag Prize package ($50 value). Once the challenge concludes the six monthly winners will be eligible to win a grand prize which will include a $50 gift card to the racetrack of their choice, an enlargement of their winning photo framed or plaque-mounted.
