At the age of just 21, harness driver Dexter Dunn is en route to setting another single season record for wins in New Zealand, and after conquering the southern hemisphere's competition he plans to try his luck in North America

.

According to an article in the New Zealand Herald, Dunn will represent New Zealand in the World Driving Championship at the end of July in the United States, but has bumped his travel plans up a few weeks.

"The series doesn't start until the end of July but I have got some contacts up there and want to have a look around and see if I can get some drives," said Dunn, who is 21 wins away from equaling his own single season record of 204 wins that he set two years ago. "I want to do some driving so I can get used to their style of racing before the champs but also I'd like to see how I fit in and if I can make some inroads into a part-time move up there.

"A lot of it comes down to whether they accept you and you can get regular drives. If that happens and I can get experience and make some sort of impression at one of the good tracks then I might even stay on after the World Champs and not come back until October."

Dunn is hoping to pave the way for an annual routine, which involves splitting his time between the southern and northern hemispheres down the road.

"That is the dream and while I am young enough, single and don't have kids I want to pursue it."

The World Driving Championship is hosted by the United States Trotting Association and will open on Sunday, July 31 and conclude on Friday, August 5. It will be held in conjunction with the 2011 World Trotting Conference, which opens on Thursday, August 4 and closes on Tuesday, August 9. Canada's representative will be determined this weekend at Charlottetown Driving Park on P.E.I.
