Owner Madison Global has reported that Anette Lorentzon will take over training three-year-old trotting colt Big Ranger, the 2025 Ohio Horse of the Year with Grand Circuit aspirations.
A statement from Madison Global released on Friday, May 29 said that the In Range-Big Blue Bird colt trained and driven by Ronnie Gillespie will move to the Lorentzon stable in preparation for the next stage of his racing career.
"This decision was made after careful consideration and for several reasons," stated Madison Global. "We want to sincerely thank Ronnie Gillespie for the outstanding work he has done developing Big Ranger and helping bring him to this point in his career. Ronnie’s horsemanship and dedication are second to none and are greatly appreciated by our entire team.
"We also look forward to continuing our relationship with Ronnie and working together on all of our two-year-olds we presently have with Ronnie in training.
"We are excited about the opportunities ahead for Big Ranger and appreciate the continued support from all affiliates."
The Ohio-based connections have previously indicated they are eyeing the Grade 1 Hambletonian Stakes in August at Meadowlands Racetrack.
A career winner of more than $620,000 in purses, Big Ranger was undefeated in seven Ohio starts as a freshman and is two-for-four to start his sophomore campaign, with a career-best 1:51.2 triumph in his latest, an Ohio Sire Stakes on May 25, setting a divisional track record at Scioto Downs.
