During a special Memorial Day card on Monday, May 27, three $41,096 series finals were held at Eldorado Scioto Downs for Buckeye Stallion Series eligible horses who did not start in the first leg of the Ohio Sires Stakes.

First up was the Overcomer Series for horse and gelding trotters. Tom Swifty and Dan Noble left from the six-hole and went straight to the top. They hit the finish in 1:55.2, finishing 2-1/4 lengths ahead of their next rival after opening quarters of :28.1, :56.4 and 1:25.4. Smokeitsteady (Chris Page) finished second with Gypsy Hill (Anthony MacDonald) just a quarter length back in third.

Tom Swifty is trained by Christi Noble for owner/breeder Sandra Burnett and Norman Rae Racing LLC. After winning the first leg of the Buckeye Stallion Series, Tom Swifty finished first and third in the two legs of the Overcomer Series. He now has three wins in six starts on the year and $85,948 in lifetime earnings. Monday’s win was a new lifetime mark for the three-year-old gelded son of Long Tom out of the Pilgrims Taj mare Evanora.

Noble also took the Falcon Almahurst Series for filly pacers with Bad Girls Racing (pictured above) in 1:51.4. Lady Bridgerton (Jeremy Smith) led the field to a :27.1 opening quarter while Bad Girls Racing was parked leaving from post position five. Settling in for about an eighth of a mile, Bad Girls Racing was quickly back out and had her neck in front by the :55.2 half. After tripping the beam in 1:22.4 for the three-quarters, the Ron Potter trainee won by a length over a fast-closing Naked On A Hill (Sam Widger), who came from 10th at the three-quarters, while Rose Run Zoey (Tyler Smith) finished third.

The win was the first of the year from five starts for Bad Girls Racing, who was bred by Spring Haven Farm and owned by Gail Potter. After finishing fourth in both legs of the series, the Racing Hill filly out of the Allamerican Native mare Bad Girls Club now has $50,893 in lifetime earnings.

What An Ocean View won the Nobleland Sam Series for horse and gelding pacers in 1:52.2. Page and the Ron Burke trainee got the pocket trip from the seven-hole through fractions of :26.3, :56 and 1:23.4 behind Dancin Moon (Jeremy Smith). The Downbytheseaside gelding popped out of the two-hole coming out of the last turn to win by 2-1/4 lengths over Rainrock (Trevor Smith) and Dancin Moon.

Bred by LMN Stables, What An Ocean View is out of the Yankee Cruiser mare Graceful Vision and is owned by Burke Racing, Knox Services, R A S Racing and J&T Silva-Purnel & Libby. After finishing third in the opening leg of the series, What An Ocean View had broken equipment in the second leg. Monday was his second win of the year in eight outings and fourth lifetime in 13 starts. He now has $66,913 in career earnings.

Because of the special Memorial Day card, Scioto will be dark on Tuesday, May 28. Racing will resume on Wednesday with 16 races and a first post of 5:45 p.m. Free program pages are available on the Scioto Downs website for all live race cards, including qualifiers.
