The best three-year-old pacers in the Maritimes invaded Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway on Sunday afternoon (May 28) and the 'King' of Island racing continued his red hot streak and stole the show.
Marc Campbell has been on a roll in Island racing action in recent weeks and continued the trend on Sunday afternoon as he won five stakes races on the program with horses from his own stable. The card featured three-year-old pacing fillies competing in four $6,550 divisions of the Ruby Chappell Memorial Stakes and three-year-old pacing colts facing off in the Bob Dewar Memorial Stakes.
Campbell trainees captured three Chappell divisions with Elektra Express winning the fastest split in 1:56.3 for the trainer/driver and owner Danica Ellis of Nova Scotia. Campbell's other Ruby Chappell victories came aboard Elm Grove Ladyluck in 1:57.1 and Filly Forty Seven in 1:57.4. The other $6,550 filly division was claimed by the Sean Dooley trainee Kinda Like Her in 1:58.1 as part of a driving triple for Kenny Arsenault.
In Bob Dewar action, Campbell went down the highway with Island Energetic in 1:56.3 to extend the colt's win streak to five-in-a-row and keep him undefeated on the season. The three-year-old son of Articulator is owned by Paul Gray and Bernadette Burgess of Nova Scotia. Ryans Allstar also won his $6,550 Dewar division in 1:57.3 for Campbell, while the other divisions were won by Tobinator in 1:58.3 for driver Corey MacPherson and trainer Trevor Hicken, and Complete Player in 1:56.3 as he remains unbeaten in stakes action so far in the 2017 season. Complete Player was driven by Mark Bradley for trainer Tom Weatherbie and owner David Kennedy of Charlottetown.
The $2,400 Preferred Pace was won by Heart And Soul in 1:56.1 for trainer/driver Clare MacDonald of Nova Scotia and local owner Riley Farms Ltd., of Summerside.
