The Ohio Sires Stakes took centre stage on Scioto Downs’ Monday, May 26 card of live racing.
The first OSS contest (Race 5 on the 15-dash docket) featured three-year-old trotting colts. A field of 10 went to post for the $40,000 purse. The Jim Daley-trained Cantcutthatchip didn’t disappoint.
Cantcutthatchip, by Chip Chip Hooray, is owned by Kathy Ratcliff and Jerry Zosel of Ohio. Driver Jason Brewer was unrushed in the early going, but when he moved Cantcutthatchip, the colt responded. He won by four lengths in 1.58.2 as the post-time choice.
OSS pacing colts were then featured in Race 7. The Kyle Ater-driven and Dan Ater-trained Friskie Adam recorded a four and a half-length victory in 1.52.4. The mile was a career best for the son of Feelin Friskie.
The three-year-old pacing colts returned in race 10, where the Greg Grismore-driven and Doug Hinklin-trained Big Bossman cruised to a two and a half-length victory in a lifetime best of 1.53.3.
The final OSS dash on the card came in Race 11, and heavy favourite Rompaway Galaxy was much the best in the mile, as he posted a 14 and a half-length victory in 1:55.4 for driver Mike Micallef and trainer Krista Harmon.
Scioto’s next card of live racing will get underway Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
