The New Democratic Party's Pat Atkinson has criticized the province of Saskatchewan for spending $1.5 million on horse racing this summer and says the money would be better spent on reopening a ski hill at Blackstrap Provincial Park
.
In an article on News Talk 650, Dan D'Autremont, the minister of Liquor and Gaming, supports the decision to fund horse racing stating that “The people who are betting on horse racing are paying for horse racing.”
