Off to a perfect start at the Truro Raceway meet, American Risk ($2.20) capped off a training triple for George Rennison on the Friday, May 23 card when the popular pacer won another edition of the Winners Over Handicap.
American Risk went three-for-three in the $2,500 top class with another dominant performance, leading all the way to a 1:57.2 two-length triumph in rein to catch-driver Redmond Doucet, a four-time winner during his first card of the year. With the first-up Rockin Corona (Darren Crowe) breaking stride off the final turn, the runner-up honours went to pocket-pursuer Bronx Drifter (Trevin Shive) over the pylon-skimming Lady N Paradise (Clare MacDonald).
Locally owned by Risky Bizz Group, the nine-year-old American Ideal-Kissing Bandit gelding recorded her 45th career win and lifted his bankroll over $140,000.
Rennison also swept the early Daily Double with the maiden-breaking sophomore DJ Dragon ($3) and Howmac Powerball ($3.10), who is now two-for-three in his four-year-old campaign. Both winners were also driven by Doucet.
A runner-up to American Risk last week, Like A Glove ($2.20) dropped out of the top class and posted the fastest mile on the nine-race card, a flashy 1:54.2 score by 16-3/4 lengths with 28-year-old Dartmouth, N.S. horseman Noah Whebby in tow for his first career driving win.
Marc Whebby trains Like A Glove, a four-year-old son of McWicked out of Twin B Virtue, for owner Wayne Whebby.
