J K Special, under the command of Walter Cheverie, captured Thursday’s fillies and mares feature at the Charlottetown Driving Park in 1:57.3.
The eight-year-old daughter of Cammibest-J K Beauty sliced out fractions of :28.4, :57.3 and 1:27.4 before using a :29.4 closing panel to seal the deal. J K Special defeated General Luckypercy and Too Ideal. Joe Smallwood is the owner and trainer of J K Special who now has back- to-back wins in this class.
Caliban Hanover, with Ron Gass in the bike, won the open trot in 2:01.2. It was his second win in-a-row in the open. Wendell MacDonald of Cornwall is the owner. Buckling Banbury was second with Diamond Mine third.
It was a memorable night for Steven Shepherd as he picked up his first lifetime win aboard JJ Jaguar. Shepherd moved the pacer three-wide down the backstretch to chase down leader Winbak Poker and roll on to a five-length victory in 1:58.3.
Dirt Track Momma and Marc Campbell recorded the fastest mile of the night in 1:56.2 for trainer Jonah Moase.
Racing returns on Saturday at 6 p.m. Red Shores Summerside opens for the season on Sunday with a 1 p.m. post time.
