"Lazy" Horse Breaks Track Record

Imagine if your horse went out and recorded the fastest-ever mile in the 59-year history of a racetrack. Imagine if, in turn, you referred to the horse as "lazy."

Hes Gorgeous made history when he turned in the fastest mile in the 59-year history of Vernon Downs this past Saturday, when he won the track's Open Pace in 1:48.3.

Some horses get brave on the engine, and according to owner Ken Jacobs, that is exactly what happens with Hes Gorgeous. “If he gets to the front, they can’t catch him, but if he doesn’t make the front, he’s lazy,” said Jacobs.

Jacobs' comments have come in the May 23 episode of 'Inside Harness Racing,' which can be viewed here.

Viewers will also meet leading Vernon Downs trainer Tracy Brainard in 'Settlemoir’s Spotlight,' and the latest lesson from 'Harness Racing University' explores the different types of wagers available at the racetrack.
