Mach Wheel returned to the races after his winter break on Sunday (May 22) at Truro Raceway and dominated the top class for trainer/driver Darren Crowe.
The Mach Three gelding built up a six-length lead by the half in the $1,475 Winners Over pacing feature and cruised home for the 1:56.4 victory, with two-time defending class champion Miss Oromocto chasing one and half lengths behind in second. The winner's stablemate, Barona Lilac, rounded out the top three finishers, but finished over 10 lengths behind.
Mach Wheel boasts a near-perfect Truro record with seven wins in eight local starts for owner Roy Springett of Windsor, N.S. Lifetime, the eight-year-old pacer has earned 23 wins and $259,759 in purses.
Crowe, one of this year's Cheering for Charity participants, was a four-time winning driver on the day. Meanwhile, Barona Lilac is racing for the Pink Think Stable this year, with 20 percent of her earnings going to the SOS Dragon Boat Team in support of breast cancer patients and survivors.
