A set of $8,400 Preferred 2 events for pacers highlighted the Monday matinee at The Raceway at The Western Fair District, with Bare Necessity and veteran campaigner Fleet Sensation taking home the top prize in their respective tilts.

Despite a costly miscue behind the starting gate, Bare Necessity circled the field en route to a 1:54.3 score in his Preferred 2 assignment. The five-year-old son of Apaches Fame-Presidential Speed made a bold, three-wide move going to the three-quarter pole and then used a :29-second closing quarter to prevail by three-quarters of a length over Six Gun in 1:54.3. Draconian set the speed before tiring late and settling for a third-place finish.

Richard Moreau trains the gelding, who was sent off as the 1-9 favourite, for partners Sam Angelopoulos of Cambridge and Jessica Alexopoulos of Puslinch, ON. The pacer is a 13-time winner with earnings in excess of $128,000.

Fleet Sensation pulled off a 19-1 shocker in his Preferred 2 assignment for the tandem of driver Rob Sparling, Jr. and trainer Dean Nixon. The 11-year-old son of How Fleet He Is-Bone Chill chopped out panels of :28, :57.2 and 1:25.2 before using a :29.4 kicker to win by a half-length margin in 1:55.1. Thats The Life was second, with Just Crowned finishing third.

It was the second win of the year for the 42-time winner who is owned by Nixon and Cheri Mulcaster of Essex, ON. The charismatic campaigner has stashed away earnings in excess of $250,000 to date.

The card also featured a pair of $5,600 Preferred 3 events, with Artist List (1:55.2 – Robert Shepherd/Ken Oliver) and Power Off (1:54.1 – Nick Steward/Randy Van Meer) winning their respective races.
