Veteran trainer Carl Jamieson is no stranger to top trotters. In fact, last season the Princeton, Ontario resident conditioned Cross Of Lorraine to an impressive
three-year-old season. The daughter of Angus Hall banked $303,352 in her career for Jamieson, while competing primarily in the Ontario Sires Stakes program.
Now, one year later, Jamieson is back with a pair of sophomore, colt trotters sired by Here Comes Herbie. Twin B Herbie and Mister Herbie will begin their OSS sophomore season this Sunday in their Gold eliminations at Mohawk.
“They are a couple of really nice trotters but they both had some lameness issues last year,” said Jamieson. “We had to take our time with them, but they are coming along great this year.”
Both three-year-olds are coming off very good performances. On May 12, Twin B Herbie was taken off the gate to sit seventh, trotting home in a strong :27.2 last quarter. He was beat by 1-1/4 lengths, getting under the wire in 1:56.3.
Mister Herbie also raced on May 12, saw himself in a similar situation as his stablemate. Getting away near the middle of the pack, he stormed home in 1:56.2 with a last quarter in :27.3, being beat by a nose for
the victory.
Jamieson who briefly trained the sire in 2006, has had some luck with his team of Here Comes Herbie's this year.
“I bought three Here Comes Herbie's as yearlings and they have all turned out to be nice trotters, “ Jamieson added. “My other one is a filly, Lukes Sophie. She won an O.S.S. Gold elim in London last night. I have them paid into a couple of other Ontario events, but I plan to keep them in the O.S.S. program this summer,” he said.
Carl shares ownership on both geldings with Thomas Kyron. Glengate Farms owns a piece of Twin B Herbie as well.
Mister Herbie leaves from post eight in race seven while Twin B Herbie will leave from post one in race four to compete in Sunday evening’s featured $40,000 elims. The top three finishers and one fourth place finisher will advance to the final.
First race post time for Sunday’s Fireworks and Family Fun night is 6:30 p.m. Once racing concludes, fans can stay for the dazzling fireworks show, which begins at 9:30 p.m.
