A set of Preferred 3 events for horse and gelding pacers went postward Monday evening at The Raceway at Western Fair District, with Acting Out and Royal Renegade winning their respective $9,300 assignments.
Acting Out was a front-stepping winner in his assignment for driver Alfie Carroll and trainer Richard Moreau. The gelding released Intended Royalty in the early going, but he sprinted past that foe and took the lead at the quarter in :28.1. He then sliced out middle splits of :58.1 and 1:26.3 before kicking home in :29.2 to win by a half-length margin in 1:56. Bettor BB was next best, with Adore Him third.
Sent off as the odds-on favourite, the six-year-old son of Art Major-Shake That Junk posted the victory for owner Brad Grant of Milton, Ont. The 23-time winner has banked more than $270,000 to date.
Royal Renegade took the other Preferred tilt – this one going 1 1/16 miles – for the tandem of driver Colin Kelly and trainer Jodie Cullen.
The gelding sat a two-hole trip behind Lucan Hanover throughout the event before popping out late on that one and cruising to the win by 1-1/4 lengths over heavily favoured Lucan Hanover in 2:02.2. Rounding out the top three was Evasive Card Shark.
Paul Sanders and Christine Cutting share ownership on the seven-year-old son of JK Royal Flush-Palma Ceia. The victory was the second of the season and the 21st to date for the career winner of close to $170,000.
