It’s show and tell time for a number of pacing colts and geldings who have aspirations to dance with the best in the Glamour Boy division, and it looks as though trainer Dr. Ian Moore has a pair of pacers who fit that bill
.
After going winless in nine starts as a rookie, Eighteen, who is listed at 70-1 in Trot Magazine's Pepsi North America Cup Spring Book, made his sophomore debut a winning one at Woodbine Racetrack on Monday evening. He defeated fellow NA Cup eligibles Achilles Blue Chip (125-1) and Audreys Dream (125-1) in a time of 1:52.3.
Achilles Blue Chip chopped out splits of :27.1, :55.3 and 1:24.4 with Eighteen and driver Sylvain Filion sitting on his back every step of the way. Filion popped his charge out of the pocket halfway down the lane and the son of Cams Card Shark-Dream Of Mimi used a :27.2 final quarter to post the two-length tally.
Trainer Dr. Ian Moore co-owns the colt with R G McGroup Ltd of New Brunswick and Serge Savard of Quebec. The career winner of $26,540 was a $27,000 purchase from the 2009 Harrisburg Yearling Sale.
Just three races later stablemate Rockabillie (70-1) won his 2011 debut in 1:53.4 with Sylvain Filion in tow. The son of Rocknroll Hanover-Be My Guest parked past the quarter pole in :27.4 before clearing to the top. He then gave way in the backstretch and sat a pocket trio through middle panels of :56.2 and 1:25.2. Filion angled the colt off the pylons in the stretch, and despite getting a bit out of gear he eventually collected a better stride and drew away to a solid score in 1:53.4.
It was the second lifetime tally for the youngster, who was a $42,000 purchase from the 2009 Lexington Select Yearling Sale. Moore co-owns the colt with the R G McGroup Ltd and Serge Savard. The colt has banked $27,195 to date.
