After the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation revealed its gaming zones for potential casino expansion on Thursday, one MPP feels that the government's move to end the slots at racetrack program in 2013 will end up costing them money both now and in the future
.
When asked about the possibility that Elora's OLG Slots at Grand River Raceway could become a full-fledged casino, Wellington-Halton Hills MPP Ted Arnott's biggest concern was how this move has impacted horse racing in Ontario.
“We have to look at what the government is doing to the horse industry,” Arnott said to the Guelph Mercury. “They planned to first weaken the horse racing industry — decimate it really — then end the slots at tracks program and build a whole bunch of mega casinos. They think they’ll make a greater profit by doing it this way.
“In the long run this is going to hurt them more than it will help them. Possibly in the short run too.”
Although recent changes to the OLG Act have removed the need for municipalities to approve casino expansion through a referendum, Arnott feels communities should have a say and approve expanded gaming before the province moves forward.

Why don't we get the PC's involved in a Stop Dalton McGuinty Campaign. They can't campaign for seats just yet (thanks to the NDP) but if everyone in horse racing and 2 friends put a sign on their front lawns we may get everyone who passes by to look.
Why limit it to signs? Bumper stickers, and even add it to our email salutations with a description of what he is doing. If the word gets out to everyone then consciously or even subconsciously (we accept either) just about everyone will eventually see the message.
The cost will be minimal and we can all share if it's non-profit.

60,000.00 jobs are at stake BUT that is also 60,000.00 VOTES!!! Double or triple that if you add spouses relatives etc.
With the recent story about rebuilding the Gardner-Lakeshore area of TO can you imagine the traffic chaos that there would be if they put a mega casino down there???
Put the casino at Woodbine!!! Its already there its close to the 401 airport and hotels.
Its really a no brainer. People have gone to Woodbine for 12 years now and its record shows its the no.1 money maker of them all. WHY CHANGE THAT!!!!!!

How come you two do not see that something is not right with your Liberal Counterparts and the OLGA. Seems to me that there is some serious pockets being filled with tax payers dollars not from the money generated by horse racing slot machines. Time for an investigation.
