A former star of the OSS program, and a filly that aspires to continue the road to stardom in that program will resurface in their first qualifying events of the season
on Monday morning.
Mohawk Racetrack will be the scene of the first qualifying attempt of the season for Elusive Desire, who was voted Canada’s Two-Year-Old Trotting Filly of the Year at the 2008 O’Brien Awards.
Trained by Mike Keeling, the three-year-old daughter of Angus Hall finished off her rookie campaign with a dominant performance in the $300,000 OSS Super Final at Woodbine Racetrack.
She finished that season with a 3-6-4 record and more than $395,000 from just 14 starts. She is owned in partnership by P C Wellwood Enterprises Inc., Charles Armstrong and Robert Fasken.
On Monday morning at the CDPEC, Dr. Ian Moore is scheduled to put the first charted line of the season on Astronomical.
The seven-year-old son of Astreos, who last raced on August 15, 2008 in the $20,000 Gold Cup & Saucer Consolation at the CDPEC, is a 35-time winner that has banked in excess of $754,000 for Moore and partners William Shearer and R G McGroup Ltd. (Ron & Gail McLellan).
“He seems to be almost as good as ever right now,” Dr. Ian Moore told Trot Insider. “I trained at home on Wednesday in 1:57 with a last quarter in :28 seconds. He’ll still be breeding mares until about mid-July, so we will pick a few starts at home then if all is still well, he’ll be off to Mohawk.”
“We trained Shadow Play this morning 1:57.3 off a half in 1:01,” added Moore. “He was good; he’s ready for Western Fair and the Molson Pace eliminations.”
