Wally Hennessey is turning Tioga Downs into "Wally World" as the two-time defending driver’s champion drove six more winners on Sunday (May 16). He took down both features with trainer Mike Deters.
Hennessey and Deters won the $9,000 Open Trot with Burn Notice.
Askmelater Hanover charged to the front and led to the first quarter in :27.1. However, the lead was short lived as Burn Notice went to the front. Lightfootedlegend decided they wanted the lead and they then took control as the field passed the stands for the first time. Lightfootedlegend marched to the half in :55.1 and continued to three-quarters in 1:24.
As they made the turn for home, Burn Notice fired out of the pocket and burned home to a lifetime mark of 1:52.3. Lightfootedlegend had to settle for second money. BJ Lorado finished third.
Burn Notice is six-year-old gelding by Cayenne Turbo. He is owned by WHR Trust. It was his fifth win this season and the 18th of his career. He paid $4.90 to win.
Prairie Panther sweeps up to take the $9,000 Open Pace.
Machiatto A went straight to the front and led to the first quarter in :26.3 and to the half in :55.1. Prairie Panther moved first over and flushed Night Watchman as they reached the backstretch. Night Watchman took the lead and led to three-quarters in 1:23.
As they headed to the finish, Prairie Panther found another gear and held off a late charge by runner-up Caviart Reagan to win in a seasonal best time of 1:51. Night Watchman had to settle for third.
Prairie Panther is a seven-year-old gelding by Royal Millennium. Deters is co-owner with Laurie Poulin. It was his fourth win of 2021 and the 45th of his career. He paid $4.80 to win.
Deters and Hennessey combined for another win with Johnny Chip ($3.30). Hennessey got his other wins with Joey Pro ($8.00), Rousseau ($7.20), and Harry Terror ($9.80).
