Lawless Shadow Victorious Again

The Dr. Ian Moore trainee Lawless Shadow dominated older foes again at Scioto Downs, strolling to a 1:50 victory on Saturday (May 15) as the odds-on favourite.

Driver Ronnie Wrenn Jr. jetted the sophomore son of Shadow Play to the front and cleared past a :26.2 opening quarter. Snagging a breather to a :55 half, Lawless Shadow readied for the backside sprint as Dojea Gizmo ground first over to take a narrow lead moving to the final turn. The pair paced in tandem by three-quarters in 1:22.2, but Lawless Shadow edged away with his inside advantage and opened ground on his competition through the stretch to win by two-and-a-quarter lengths. Dojea Gizmo held second with Gerardo – off a pocket trip – taking third.

Owned by Dr. Ian Moore, R G McGroup Ltd., Serge Savard and Frank Cannon, Lawless Shadow won his sixth race from 11 starts, earning $321,624. The North America Cup hopeful paid $3.00 to win.

Lawless Shadow's stablemate Century Farroh also raced on Saturday at Scioto, finishing a solid second to the red-hot Gold Digger King. That son of Pet Rock - Hope For Pot Gold held off Century Farroh in the featured $22,000 Open Pace to win by a half-length in a lifetime best 1:49.2.

I suspect that we'll next watch Century Farroh race on 5/30 in The Commodore Barry, at Harrah's Philadelphia. The Commodore Barry is the first stakes race of the year for older pacers with a purse of over $100,000 that is not held on a half-mile track (as the MGM Borgata was.)
