A costly break behind the gate by race favourite Tomorrowpan threw Sunday’s opening leg of the Betsy Ross wide-open at Harrah’s Chester, and it was Anndrovette who capitalized on the golden opportunity for driver Tim Tetrick
.
The four-year-old daughter of Riverboat King-Easy Miss was treated to a second over trip in the $40,000 assignment, and she didn’t let it go to waste. Anndrovette got away third while Rock N Soul zipped the field past the quarter pole in a :28-second clip. Chancy Lady, who made an early mistake, as well, recovered from her miscue before pressing Rock N Soul to the mid-way point in :56.2. Tetrick, in the meantime, tipped Anndrovette off the pylons and grabbed cover behind the first-over attacker.
Rock N Soul and Chancey Lady continued their battle to the three-quarter station in 1:24.1, with Anndrovette swelling up on cover with two furlongs of racetrack remaining. Tetrick pulled the trigger on his charge shortly past the third marker, and Anndrovette summoned up a :27.2 final quarter en route to prevailing by 1-1/2 lengths over Laughandbehappy in 1:52. Omen Hanover grabbed the show dough.
Jeffrey Bamond and Joseph Davino of New Jersey share ownership on the distaffer, who hangs her harness bag in the barn of trainer Don Campbell. The victory was her third of the season in six tries, and it was her 13th lifetime tally. She has put away more than $63,000 in earnings this year, while her lifetime total sits at $641,200.
Leg two of the Betsy Ross goes next Sunday at Harrah’s Chester, with the $100,000 final slated for Sunday, May 29.
