Reigning champ in the $14,000 Preferred Pace class Shark Week held the throne with a coast-to-coast victory at Century Downs on Saturday (May 13).

Driver Mike Hennessy sent the five-year-old Vertical Horizon gelding to the lead from Post 6 and uncorked a :25.4 first quarter to keep his competitors following. Slowing the tempo to a :55.3 half, he upped the speed in the backside to clock three-quarters in 1:23.2 and proved too strong for his rivals. He continued plugging through to the finish to post a 3-1/4-length win over pocket-sitter Ernesto Delacruz while stopping the clock in 1:51.2. Armycaptin Hanover made slight gains to finish third and Whiplash Smile settled for fourth.

Trainer Rod Hennessy co-owns Shark Week with Lorne Duffield. The pacer won his 27th race from 61 starts and has now banked $250,475. He paid $4.10 to win.
