Award-winning pacing filly Geocentric launched her sophomore season with a winning qualifer at Hoosier Park on the first Wednesday morning of May.
Making her qualifying debut in a mixed four-horse field of older pacers, Geocentric got a pocket trip behind the veteran 12-year-old Secret Threat through panels of :30, :59.2 and 1:28.2 for driver Trace Tetrick. The top two turned for home well ahead of the rest before Geocentric paced alongside the leader down the stretch and glided by at the end to win by three-quarters of a length in 1:54.4, with her final quarter clocked in 26 seconds.
Trained by Brian Brown, the Sweet Lou-Geometry filly went nine-for-10 and earned $556,251 during her freshman campaign en route to securing U.S. divisional honours.
She was a dual Sire Stakes champion, taking the Pennsylvania and Kentucky titles, and won a Grand Circuit division of the International Stallion Stakes in a lifetime best 1:49.3 at The Red Mile. A Breeders Crown elimination winner at Hoosier, she finished seventh in the final in her only career loss.
A $55,000 Black Book Yearling Sale purchase, Geocentric competes for Ohio owners Milton Leeman, Alan Keith, James Stambaugh and Joe Sbrocco.
The first leg of the Pennsylvania Sire Stakes for sophomore pacing fillies is May 17 at The Meadows. Geocentric is also eligible to the Fan Hanover Stakes in June at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
