Mystic Maiden & Co. To Ontario

The best in the West is headed East to take on tougher competition as Western Canada's pacing princess Mystic Maiden arrives in Ontario today

Brett Currie, co-owner of Mystic Maiden and father of Mystic Maiden's trainer Justin Currie, told Trot Insider that three horses from the Currie stable will arrive in Ontario and stable at Jason Libby's Dorchester Downs Training Centre outside Ingersoll, Ont. Currie, the Vice-President of Harness Racing BC, went on to state that he's looking to purchase a farm in the area and set up shop in South-Western Ontario while Justin takes care of the rest of the stable and finishes out the remainder of the Fraser Downs meet before heading East.

"It's bittersweet to come out here after all we've worked to build out in B.C.," Currie told Trot Insider, "but I told Justin that if he wants to train, this is the place he'll have to be."

While nothing is set in stone for Mystic Maiden, Currie's approach for her Ontario campaign will start modest.

"We'll qualify her at Mohawk early May and see how she is," stated Currie. "We might try to get her a start at Hiawatha or Georgian to start and let her see what she can do there."

Now 24-for-28 lifetime for the Curries and Barry MacFarlane, Mystic Maiden (Camystic-Artfromtheheart) made her last start in B.C. a memorable one with a lifetime best 1:53.1 score in the Fillies & Mares Open at Fraser Downs on March 20.
