Benny Christensen converted a perfect pocket trip into his first training triumph aboard trotter Market Rebound in the Friday evening finale at Western Fair Raceway
.
Christensen sent Market Rebound after 12th race tempo-setter and eventual third place finisher Mutinys Child (Greg Dustin) after the third quarter mark and opened up nearly three lengths on top to win in 2:00.4, returning $11.90 to his backers. Frenchman (Ryan Holliday) finished second despite being parked out early on.
The race results survived a pair of drivers' objections. The advancing Holliday launched an objection against Christensen when he pulled out by the three-quarters mark. Three-wide aboard eventual fourth place finisher Strike Force, Christopher Johnston launched an objection against Holliday. Judges disallowed both objections.
The training win was Christensen's first in 26 starts and fifth in the bike. As for the four-year-old Credit Winner-Ashleys Carousel gelding, he won for the second time in seven starts this year off a one month layoff for owner Tommy Andersson of Grand Valley, Ont. It was his first start under the care of Christensen, a resident of Moffatt, Ont., who just celebrated his 49th birthday two days ago.
