In order to come up with the winner in the $13,000 Preferred Trot at Georgian Downs on Tuesday, a little help was needed from the photo finish operator. And when the verdict came in, it was Rose Run Hooligan by a nose
.
Rose Run Hooligan, who was sent off as the even-money favourite in the featured event laid just off the pace for most of the mile before going to work in the late stages of the mile for the Allard brothers – trainer Rene and driver Simon.
Bacchus Marsh to the front and sliced out splits of :28.3, :58.4 and 1:27.4 before locking horns with Rose Run Hooligan for what turned out to be a nail biter of a stretch drive. Neither horse wanted to give in, but Rose Run Hooligan managed to put his schnoz on the line just in the nick of time. Bacchus Marsh was second and The Original finished third.
Owned by Rene Allard, Anne O’Keefe and Ferme Bureau Et Fils Senc., Rose Run Hooligan has now put together a 2-1-0 record in his first three attempts since being purchased in a private deal. The six-year-old son of Corleone pushed his lifetime earnings to $368,910 with the win.
Jody Jamieson added to his nation-leading totals by constructing a five-win performance on the 12-race program.
The Cambridge, ON resident made his way to victory lane following wins with Margie Seelster (2:02.1), Wildmotion (1:57.1), Gotta Travel On (1:56.3), Lord Maximus N (1:57.2) and Spago Hall (1:56.2).
