Multiple stakes-winning pacer Doo Wop Hanover will be sidelined for the year after suffering a serious injury in a stall accident.
Peter Blood, who co-owns and developed the now five-year-old son of Rocknroll Hanover, told harnessracing.com that the pacer broke a coffin bone in his left hind leg after kicking a stall wall earlier this year and will not race.
"He's out and it's too bad. He was exciting to watch," said Blood. "Horses kick the walls a lot and I think something was bothering him. If there was some underlying situation that made him do that, I don't know. I just know it was a sad day around the Blood barn when we got the news."
Doo Wop Hanover's four-year-old campaign was his best in three years on the track. In 18 starts for trainer Steve Elliott and co-owner Rick Berks, the stallion put up a 7-3-1 summary and banked more than $450,000 while primarily competing with the sport's top older pacers. He counts in the 2015 Graduate Final at The Meadowlands and the 2015 Jim Ewart Invitational at Scioto among his top seasonal scores. He took his lifetime best of 1:47.4 in leg of the Graduate at Tioga Downs, establishing a track record.
