Purpose Blue Chip, who didn't make a pari-mutuel start last year at four, clocked the fastest time during the Olympia of Palm Beach Training Center's compact qualifying session on Wednesday, April 29.
Trainer/driver Dan Daley was in the bike as Purpose Blue Chip sat second though the :29.1 opening quarter and :58.3 opening half. The duo were on top by the time they clicked off three quarters in 1:27.2 and then closed off the proceedings courtesy of a :28.1 final quarter. The win time was 1:55.3 and the margin of victory was five and a half lengths.
Purpose Blue Chip, who is a five-year-old son of Chapter Seven, has compiled a record of 4-3-4 from 20 career starts. He carries a mark of 1:55.1, which was taken over Vernon Downs. The bay has banked $192,221 and is owned by Annmari Daley (of Vero Beach, FL), James Crawford (Erieville, NY), and Donald Brenner (Freeport, NY).
The three-race session featured a total of eight horses. The other races were won by Sweet Deisel in 1:56.1 and Celebrity Liberty in 2:06.
